The VIZI® Merchant Score rates crypto-accepting businesses on the same 300–850 scale, using verified on-chain payment history, dispute patterns, settlement reliability, and counterparty behavior. One API call. One number. Total clarity.
The VIZI® Merchant Score is a purpose-built risk rating for crypto-native businesses. Unlike individual wallet scores, the Merchant Score evaluates commercial behavior patterns: payment acceptance volume, settlement discipline, dispute rates, and the quality of a merchant's customer base. It answers the question every payment processor asks before onboarding a new merchant: "Can I trust this business?"
Individual credit scores measure personal financial behavior. The Merchant Score measures commercial behavior — payment acceptance patterns, refund rates, settlement timing, and business relationship quality. It is the crypto equivalent of a merchant risk profile that traditional payment processors use to tier their merchants.
The Merchant Score uses the same familiar 300–850 range as the individual VIZI® Score. Merchants scoring 750+ qualify for instant settlement and reduced fees. Those below 500 require enhanced monitoring, pre-funding, or manual review before processing privileges are granted.
Merchant scores update continuously as new transactions are confirmed on-chain. A merchant that processes a large volume of disputed transactions today will see their score reflect that risk tomorrow — not in 30 days. Real-time scoring means real-time risk management.
The Merchant Score analyzes six core dimensions of on-chain merchant behavior. Each factor is weighted, time-decayed, and normalized against cohort benchmarks to produce a single 300–850 number that payment processors and marketplaces can act on instantly.
Measures the regularity and growth trajectory of inbound payment volume over 30, 90, and 365-day windows. Merchants with stable, growing volume score higher than those with erratic spikes or sudden drops that may indicate fraud or business instability.
Tracks the ratio of disputed transactions to total volume, the resolution rate of disputes, and the average time to resolution. Merchants with dispute rates below 0.5% and fast resolution times receive the highest factor scores.
Evaluates whether the merchant settles outbound obligations on time — supplier payments, refunds, and payroll. Late or missed settlements are the strongest negative signal in the Merchant Score, weighted at 30% of the total.
Analyzes the breadth and quality of a merchant's counterparty network. Merchants transacting with many unique, high-scored wallets demonstrate organic business activity. Concentrated counterparty sets raise wash-trading flags.
Continuous screening against OFAC, EU, and UN sanctions lists. Any transaction with a flagged address is detected and weighted heavily. Merchants with zero sanctions exposure and clean mixer-distance scores earn a compliance bonus.
The length of verifiable on-chain history matters. A merchant wallet active for 18+ months with consistent behavior scores significantly higher than a newly created wallet with identical volume — because time reveals true patterns.
Any platform that onboards, processes payments for, or extends credit to crypto-native merchants can use the Merchant Score to automate risk decisions that previously required manual review.
Automate merchant onboarding risk tiers. Route high-scored merchants to instant settlement and flag low-scored merchants for enhanced due diligence — before processing their first transaction. Reduce fraud losses by up to 40%.
Score sellers before granting storefront access. Display merchant trust badges based on VIZI® Merchant Scores. Protect buyers by surfacing risk signals that traditional KYB cannot catch — because the blockchain doesn't lie.
Assess merchant counterparty risk for high-volume OTC trades and institutional settlement. Use the Merchant Score alongside the individual VIZI® Score to build a complete risk picture for business accounts.
