The VIZI® DAO Score rates decentralized autonomous organizations on a 300–850 scale. Treasury diversification, voter participation, proposal execution quality, and fund management history — all verified on-chain, all in one number.
The DAO Score evaluates four core dimensions of organizational health. Each factor is derived entirely from on-chain data — treasury transactions, governance votes, proposal execution logs, and fund movement patterns.
Measures the composition and risk profile of the DAO's treasury holdings. DAOs that hold a diversified mix of stablecoins, blue-chip tokens, and yield-bearing positions score higher than those concentrated in a single volatile asset. Treasury runway — how many months of operating expenses the treasury can cover — is weighted heavily. A DAO with 18+ months of runway scores significantly higher than one with 3 months.
Evaluates the health of the DAO's governance process: average voter participation rate, token holder concentration among top voters, proposal frequency, and quorum achievement rate. DAOs where governance is actively exercised by a broad, distributed set of token holders score highest. Those where a small cabal controls all decisions are penalized.
Tracks the DAO's track record of executing approved proposals on time, on budget, and as specified. Measures the ratio of proposals executed vs. approved, average execution delay, budget overruns, and whether completed proposals achieved their stated objectives. DAOs that consistently execute well demonstrate operational competence.
Analyzes historical treasury transactions: grant disbursements, contributor payments, protocol revenue collection, and investment returns. DAOs that pay contributors on time, disburse grants according to milestones, and generate positive treasury returns demonstrate financial discipline. Erratic or unexplained large outflows are negative signals.
Evaluates the security of the DAO's treasury: multisig configuration, timelock duration on large transfers, signer diversity, and historical adherence to security policies. DAOs using 4-of-7 or higher multisig with geographic and organizational signer distribution score highest. Single-key treasuries are heavily penalized.
Measures the breadth and depth of active contributors: number of unique addresses receiving compensation, contributor retention over 6 and 12-month windows, and the ratio of new contributors to departing ones. A growing, engaged contributor base signals organizational health. A shrinking one signals decline.
Governance is the heartbeat of any DAO. The DAO Score goes beyond simple voter turnout to analyze the quality, distribution, and consistency of governance participation across every on-chain proposal.
Tracks how reliably the DAO achieves quorum on governance proposals. DAOs that hit quorum on 90%+ of proposals demonstrate strong community engagement. Those that regularly fail quorum signal voter apathy or token concentration issues that make the DAO difficult to govern effectively.
Evaluates the delegation graph: how many unique delegates are active, how concentrated voting power is among top delegates, and whether delegates vote consistently with their stated platforms. A healthy delegation ecosystem where power is distributed across 20+ active delegates scores significantly higher than one where 3 delegates control 80% of votes.
Not all proposals are created equal. The DAO Score distinguishes between well-structured proposals with clear budgets, timelines, and success metrics versus vague or poorly scoped ones. DAOs that maintain high proposal quality standards — through templates, review processes, or temperature checks — demonstrate governance maturity.
The security of a DAO's treasury is a critical scoring factor. The DAO Score performs a deep analysis of the DAO's multisig configuration, timelock policies, and historical adherence to its own security practices.
Analyzes the multisig threshold and signer count. A 4-of-7 or 5-of-9 configuration with geographically and organizationally diverse signers scores highest. DAOs using 2-of-3 with signers from the same team are penalized. Single-key treasuries receive the minimum security score regardless of other factors.
Measures the timelock delay on treasury transactions. DAOs that enforce a 48-hour or longer timelock on transfers above a material threshold give the community time to react to unauthorized or malicious transactions. Those with no timelock or timelocks under 6 hours are considered higher risk.
Tracks whether the DAO follows its own stated security policies. If the DAO's constitution specifies a spending limit of $50K per transaction without a governance vote, the score verifies that no larger unauthorized transfers have occurred. DAOs that consistently adhere to their own rules score higher than those that bypass them.
The DAO Score serves any entity that needs to evaluate DAO organizational health before extending credit, allocating grants, or entering into partnerships.
When one DAO lends treasury capital to another, the DAO Score provides the creditworthiness assessment. A borrowing DAO with a score above 700 demonstrates strong treasury management, active governance, and reliable fund stewardship. Below 550, the lending DAO can require overcollateralization or decline the loan entirely.
Grant-giving DAOs and foundations use the DAO Score to evaluate applicant DAOs. Before disbursing a $500K ecosystem grant, the grantor can check whether the recipient DAO has the organizational health to deploy funds effectively. Higher-scored DAOs receive grants with fewer restrictions and milestone requirements.
Contributors evaluating which DAOs to work for can check the DAO Score before committing. A high score signals that the DAO pays on time, governs transparently, and manages its treasury responsibly. A low score is a warning sign that contributor compensation may be unreliable or governance may be dysfunctional.
The DAO Score API returns a comprehensive organizational health assessment including the overall score, factor breakdown, treasury metrics, and governance statistics. Available via REST and all supported SDKs.
Monitor any DAO continuously with webhook alerts. Get notified when a DAO's score changes by more than 20 points, when treasury runway drops below a threshold, or when governance participation falls below a critical level.
The VIZI® DAO Score gives you an objective, on-chain measure of DAO organizational health. Stop relying on reputation. Start relying on data.
